Gear and Flies Nine foot rods for 8 or 9 weight line are recommended. Reels should
have a strong drag system and hold at least one hundred yards of 20-30 lb backing. An
eight foot section of 10 lb tippet suffices for a leader.
During the spring season and depending on the water level,
sinking or sinking tip lines are the norm.
| Larger hairwing flies in sizes 2 or 2.0 are
also recommended. Some of our favorites include but are not limited to the Renous Special,
Golden Eagle, Elmer's Special, Red Eagle, Black Ghost and Miramichi. |

Since angling during this period is traditionally done from
a boat, waders are not necessary, however make sure you bring warm clothing, waterproof
insulated boots, rain jacket and water resistant pants.
During the summer and fall runs, the water is lower and
floating lines and smaller single or double hook flies in sizes 4-10 are the norm.
Favorite flies include but are not limited to the Green Machine, Tippet Shrimp, Black Bear
Green Butt, Hair Wing Blue Charm, Miramichi Cosseboom, Coburn Special, General
Practitioner and dry flies such as the Glitter Bugs and Bombers. This is also the time
that you wade to fish, so don't forget your waders, light rain jacket and vest or chest
pack. Wading staffs are not needed.
Other gear that you will need, regardless of when you get
here, includes polarized sunglasses, nippers, forceps, tippet material and a hat. |
